The Reverend Advocate & Advocate General of Celebrationism

The vow of the advocate general:

“I vow to be an embracer of all human nature -- especially my own. I vow to be a student of humanity and its creations in culture, belief, contribution, self-understanding, purpose and every school of thought made available to me. I will be a balanced considerer in my personal understandings of human operation, natural psychology, human biology and will allow every person that I might encounter, when possible, to be a teacher to me. I vow to be a conscious contributor through meaningful creations of human imagination and to be a friend to the friendless, a defender to the defenseless, will work to understand the misunderstood and act as caretaker to the abandoned. I vow to serve as a uniting champion of compassionate humanity in mission to greater global unity, understanding and human celebration in service to the most beloved creations of existence.”

The Role of the Advocate General

and Reverend Advocate

The reverend advocate of Celebrationism, who also simultaneously holds

the Office of the Advocate General of the World Celebrationist Society is

the leader of Celebrationism, its organizations and missions. The title of

Reverend Advocate denotes the  office holder's position as the luminary of

Celebrationist philosophy. The title of Advocate General denotes their

position as the head of the World Celebrationist Society -

Celebrationism's central body of government and operation.

In the capacity of his or her positions, the advocate general

works as the protector of the philosophy's mission, guide to followers of

Celebrationist teaching, chairman of the celebrationist leadership

and servant to all people who are in need of compassion,

forgiveness and support. The, advocate general, serves as a voice

of advocacy in service to  anyone in need of such support, especially

those who might be embattled or who may require the

forgiveness, reflection, tolerance and humanistic  understanding inherent

to our missions of improvement, human progress and

interpersonal understanding.

The Formalities

Celebrationism incorporates tradition, honor and symbol in celebration of human expression, achievement, sustainability, identity and heritage. The titles used by Celebrationist officials are used in tribute to these important ideas and in respect for the offices they hold.

In formal settings, the reverend advocate uses the title of Advocate General. The reverend advocate title simply refers to their position as the head of Celebrationist philosophy and humanistic ministry. Conversely, the reverend advocate holds the Office of the Advocate General, the executive body of the World Celebrationist Society - Celebrationism's central body of government and function. The title 'sustent,' often abbreviated as Sust., behind the name of the reverend advocate,  is derived from the latin word sustentet, which means 'guide.'

You'll note that the latin term Imperfectus, meaning "flawed" or "imperfect," also follows their formal title.

Together these terms serve as a reminder and reflection of the imperfect nature of all leaders,

especially those leading in movements of philosophy and mission.  This

tradition was implemented as a reminder and acknowledgement of the

fallibilty and inherent imperfection that are natural to human beings,

which are especially important to consider when serving in delicate and

influential roles. This is a notion that is of central importance

to the philosophies of the Celebrationist tradition.

*On this website you will find periodic readings, statements and

reflections from the reverend advocate, which should not, of course, be

revered as scripture or dictation, but rather serve as thoughtful reflection

which we hope will inspire independent thought and guidance in

Celebrationist philosophy.

Why the Collar?

It is human tradition to wear costumes to communicate messages to the world. The reverend advocate’s attire is a tribute to this tradition. The costumes that the reverend advocate wears, including the variations of the famous reverend’s collar, are not necessarily typical of the standard meaning or the common outward designation of a figure of clerical nature, but a symbol of a philosophy, a message of vision and the representation of an idea.

It is indeed a symbol of human ministry and a reminder to those wearing it of the duties, responsibilities and requirements of individuals occupying the reverend advocate’s office. It is also a symbol of several other aspects of Celebrationist philosophy as well.

Foremost, it is worn by a person of embraced flaw who in themselves symbolize inherent human nature as figures in the costume. The collar around the neck of this figure, in part, represents the organic nature of goodness and the potential for growth that are seeded in all people -- the very internal objects to which we’re responsible for nurturing in our selves.

It simultaneously is worn as a reminder to reconsider conventional understanding and challenge common outlooks, not only on what it is to be righteous and good, but also what it is to be a steward of thought and spirituality -- which is to simply be productively and honestly human.

It should be noted that the outfit of the reverend advocate does not signify a representative of any greater being, but instead reflects a representative of humanity.

Celebrationists are champions of people and flaw, we’re also promoters of achievement and possibility -- this uniform serves as an outward representation of the Celebrationist philosophy and in itself is a proud conviction of celebration, achievement, imagination and spirit.

Advocate General Michael, Sust. Imp.

The current reverend advocate is Advocate General Michael - the founder of Celebrationism, and author of the Pillars of Faith - the tenets which serve as the backbone of our mission and the core values of our organizations.

A thinker, visionary creator, cultural figure and student of the world - particularly of philosophy, humanity and modern culture - Michael founded Celebrationism in response to a calling to offer ideas and thoughts in striving to assist others in recognizing and acknowledging the beauty in life, the wonder of humanity, the power of compassionate humanism, and the importance of celebration in an age where it is easy to be weighed down by dark and questionable events and occurences in the unfolding human saga. This project also continues to serve as a means to grow in his own life, in becoming more aware and focused on the values and principles inherent to the Celebrationist philosophy. The chief agenda for Michael's term of advocacy is to help people see the wonder, greatness and power that are settled in the human spirit, illustrate the gift of celebration and to work on behalf of those who are in the most need of tolerance, compassion and understanding. He also hopes to bring attention to the bountiful energies that enable us to achieve, love, understand, accept, be compassionate and serve each other in mutual exploration and interpersonal discovery, tribute, appreciation and celebration.

The UCM Leadership Council

The UCM Leadership Council is the communal leadership body of the UCM.

Council members are appointed by the advocate general to help oversee

various organizational projects and missions as initiated by the rev.

advocate and at the request of regional organizers. In addition to the

council projects, the Leadership Council is responsible for reviewing the

rev. advocate annually, and are expected to counsel the rev. advocate on

all internal organizational matters. The council additionally holds the

power of removing the advocate general from his or her position with a

unanimous vote in favor of the action.  Councilors also work to serve and

support fellow movement leaders, organizers and members of

Celebrationist communities around the world.

Council members assigned to oversee the various projects and mission of

the UCM are to be considered authorities of their respective projects, and

any questions or aid required by members relating to council projects are

encouraged to be directed to each respective councilor.
