The Pillars of the Celebrationist Philosophy

and the values which fuel the Celebrationist Movement

Celebrationism
A Philosophy-Based Movement in Celebratory Humanism

*Please note that certain words, such as "god," have intentionally been written in a way that is flexible and not indicative, necessarily, of a figure, but that of an energy, regardless of the form it takes - and therefore are not capitalized in reference. We accept every view of god, and have made the choice to refer to that existence in the most flexible way possible, simply because this object speaks to each of us uniquely.

We believe in celebrating all that should be celebrated; In life, in humanity, in achievement, in passion, in occurrence and in all else. We celebrate through recognition, tribute, exploration, honor, creation - and in every other way we can. We celebrate simply because there is so much to celebrate, and to do anything but recognize all that is good and beautiful in the world is a grand offense to all the gifts we are blessed with as a race.

We are creatures of flaw, our philosophy embraces this. We don’t believe in condemning people for mistakes, or for things that were done in the wrong spirit. With this important notion is also a belief that a person should reflect and be sorrowful for wrongdoings. They should also take a path of correction and improvement that incorporates self-forgiveness in the spirit of self love.

We believe in championing and understanding the parts of our lives that feel most natural to us, not declaring our very human qualities to be wrong or against god. We view things such as sexuality, want, self-concern and many other human instincts to be purely natural. We call on faith members to explore and understand these instincts, and to practice them with a full heart and great care. A person should be comfortable in their sexuality and their self-interest - though a special care must be taken in not allowing for any instinct to be one’s purpose or subject for idolization. They should also be sure to be responsible, considerate and healthy in practicing these human traits rooted deeply in biological need, and to do so in a way that nourishes a sense of community, does not harm others or lead to one valuing them selves more than their brothers and sisters in life’s journey.

We call on members of faith to offer a special, regular celebration through missions of goodwill, compassion and charity with a special attention to those in communities who are the most disenfranchised, least understood and decidedly abandoned by the embrace

of society.

We celebrate all walks of life and welcome celebrants of every creed, background, orientation, race or of any history to our movement.

We believe that people, though inherently flawed, are manifestations of the energies that are fundamental to all that exists; these forces are beautiful, complex, flexible and present in all things in the human experience. As products of these energies - which is manifested and celebrated for some as the presence known as god - and as creatures fueled by the creations of its results, we believe that humans are innately divine creatures capable of immense achievement, greatness, power and are of profound significance.

We understand both the complexity and versatility of the energies of the world around us, be it in the form of a spiritual light, a science, a belief, a feeling, a hope, deed or any other embodiment. We don’t strive to understand their nature or structure, but rather to explore their presence and unique meaning in each of our lives and experiences. We do this as a community founded in the passions and values elemental to our self-understanding.

We accept these energetic forces in our lives to be inherently divine, in that our understanding of god is that of the unending and expansive presence of force and energy most notably embodied in love, goodness, compassion, care, acceptance, tolerance, the mechanics of science and beauty both felt and seen. We also accept that these energies are the fuel of the human spirit and therefore, though not infallible, we as people, are divine in nature and capable of immense achievement.

We believe that humanity is equal to all great forms of beauty in existence.

We recognize other philosophies, religions and ideologies and their prophets and thinkers as being teachers worthy of celebration and study - including those which are atheistic in nature.

We respect and appreciate all other faiths, philosophies and ideologies which serve to enrich lives, with reverence - as products of humanity and manifestations of versatile and generous energy that speaks pertinently to groupings of people who share cultural bonds.

We believe that our natural and inherent beauty as humans - which is constant and unceasing - embodies fundamental imperfection. This imperfection is an important, embraceable and forgivable quality that gives us opportunity to work towards growth and should drive us to do better - both as individuals and as a race.

We believe that it is okay to fail - and to fail in our efforts to be greater in our selves. We ask for every failure that there be reflection, self-understanding and a commitment to try again. We must never stop trying to do better - for our selves, four our race and for those we share this existence with.

We call on those adhering to these pillars to work toward progressing with the tremendous potential innate to each of us. We recognize that each life experience is not uniform, and the potential pertinent to each experience, in that spirit, will not be uniform in how it settles itself. With that recognition we also believe that there are always opportunities to do better and grow in the greatness of one’s humanity. This should be done through a special attention to personal improvement, achievement and a nourished spirit of goodness, compassion, tolerance, understanding, care and forgiveness.

Our movement, being one that was founded in the spirit of celebrating humanity, views all other people, without exclusion, as equals who are welcome to our movement without any consideration for any prior misdeeds or offenses - regardless of nature or severity - provided that the person comes in good faith, with an intension to grow in their own beauty and work to fulfill the spirit of goodness. With this comes a demand for a committed journey of self-forgiveness and self appreciation.

Our faith allows for Celebrationism to be practiced in conjunction with the practices of any other tradition or school of thought, provided that the tenets of our philosophies are respected, nurtured and explored in one’s self.

We believe that it is more important to recognize the similarities between us than that which divides us.

We understand that the forces and energies of our existence speak to each person differently, and in that spirit we respect one’s devotion to any central or non-central figure  from another philosophy, ideology or faith that they might feel called to be devoted to, or none at all - provided that the tenets of our philosophies are respected, nurtured and explored in one’s self.
